# Update an instance

`PATCH /v1/outputs/{id}/instances/{instance}`

Renames an instance or changes its data. If the instance is on air, the graphic updates straight away.

## Path parameters

- `id` (string, required): The output's id.
- `instance` (string, required): The instance's id.

## Body

- `name` (string): A new name, up to 120 characters.
- `data` (object): Values to merge into the instance's data, by field key. `null` removes a key, so the field shows its default.

## Response

The instance as it is now.
